The Rockets introduced an alternate jersey tonight at a season ticket holder event to help kick off the Rockets season pre-training camp.
The alternate jersey will be debuted on November 6th at home when the Rockets take on the Oklahoma City Thunder and will be sold exclusively at the Toyota Center initially.
The new third jersey is a mix of old and new Rockets. The red uniform keeps the current Rockets font style and logo, but brings back the old team colors, re-introducing the mustard yellow used pre-1996 [see design].
The word "HOUSTON" is back, replacing "ROCKETS" on the front of the jersey, and is written at a slight angle (similar to the championship-era uniforms). The team had received some criticism in 2003 when their current uniforms were introduced as both the home white and road red jerseys lacked any reference to the city they call home.
Clutchfans confirmed on Tuesday that the Rockets have wanted to design and introduce a black alternate jersey for years (see Dave Cebrero's black Rockets jersey idea designed in 2005) but the league has cracked down on black jerseys and would not approve a Rockets request for one. A black Rockets uniform is one I'd stay in line overnight for.
