Reactions Mixed To Rockets New Logo
The Houston Rockets revealed their logo to the public last week when it was sent to Houston Chronicle writer David Barron and printed in the newspaper.

The Rockets had planned on waiting to reveal the new logo after some time with it just floating out "on the streets". The organization had given out merchandise to many with the new logo, but it wasn't clear on the merchandise that it was the Rockets' new logo.

Rockets Vice President of Marketing, Tim McDougall, told the fans in the Clutch BBS that this was earlier than anticipated.

"That's the way we actually hoped it would leak out -- that you'd see it on merchandise first, before the flat art got picked up by the media," said McDougall. "We knew some people would like it off the bat, but some would have to see it in context (like we did) to really be convinced."

When the new logo leaked out on the Internet, the Rockets let the cat out of the bag, sending the logo to the Chronicle.

Fans immediately reacted to it in the BBS.

"I like the aesthetic and font of the logo," said BBS member Doctor Robert. "It is simple and at the same time is completely different from any logo in the league."

Others weren't so sure.

"Don't like the new coach. Don't like the new assistant coach. Don't like the new logo," said BBS member VooDooPope. "NewYorkers are ruining my Rockets."

As for my opinion, all along the word for the new design feel was "gothic", with an effect of almost blood dripping from the "R" design. Sure enough, I think this fits that bill. While the jagged edge at the bottom of the two "R" legs is supposed to be Rocket blast trails, the overpowering red certainly gives a doomsday feel.

But hey, if you hire Mrs. Marilyn Manson to design the uniforms, "gothic" is what you would be looking for. I really reserve judgement until I see the uniforms since I think they can do some sharp things with a red-silver-white combination. Expect the uniforms to be released in September.
