  • Clutchcity.net Notes on Drew Gooden
Drew Gooden is probably the top power forward prospect in the country, earning All American honors at Kansas and was runner-up to National Player of the Year (to Duke's Jason Williams). He improved his scoring average by about 5 points each of his three seasons at Kansas, averaging 19.8 points on 50.4% shooting, 11.4 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.5 blocks as a junior at KU. His 1.8 steals put him third in the Big 12, impressive for a big man.
    Strengths of Drew Gooden
Very versatile, talented and athletic. Has a bread-and-butter hook shot and owns good range and a soft touch inside. Has great leaping ability and is an excellent rebounder. Works very hard on his game, as evidenced by his improvement at Kansas. Went from the low 60% mark at the free throw line as a freshman to 75% as a junior. If he bulks up, could become an impact power forward in the league.
    Weaknesses of Drew Gooden
When Gooden came to Kansas he was nicknamed "Hurricane Drew" by coach Roy Williams because he was so unpredictable and undisciplined. While he has improved, he'll still have a game where he'll put up multiple threes. Some say he's cocky and immature, others say just confident. Another concern: Is he a tweener? May not be big enough to play the post and not skilled enough to work on the wing.
    Gooden on the Rockets?
Carroll Dawson was recently quoted as praising Gooden highly, projecting him to be a very strong power forward in the league. Question is: Do the Rockets really need another power forward? Gooden is a good one, but would be in a rotation with Mo Taylor, Eddie Griffin and possibly Kenny Thomas (barring trade), and that wouldn't solve any of the Rockets glaring weaknesses at the three and five.
